At Dash of Luz, we believe your personal data deserves the same care you put into your meals. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information you provide directly when you create an account and use the Service:

  • Account information — your name, email address, and password (stored securely as a hash).
  • Recipes — recipes you create, import, or save, including titles, ingredients, instructions, and notes.
  • Pantry items — ingredients you add to your virtual pantry, including quantities and expiration dates.
  • Meal plans — your weekly and daily meal schedules, along with any calendar preferences.
  • Shopping lists — items you add to your shopping list, including quantities, categories, and notes.
  • Dietary preferences — allergies, dietary restrictions, cuisine preferences, and household size that you configure in your settings.
  • Favorite recipe sites — recipe website URLs you bookmark for quick access.
  • Uploaded files — images, PDFs, and other files you upload for recipe import or other features.
  • Import data — when you import a recipe from a URL or photo, we temporarily store the source material to process it.
  • Notification preferences — your notification settings and communication preferences.
  • Billing information — we store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status; we do not store your payment card details (Stripe handles that directly).
  • Settings and preferences — app preferences such as measurement units, theme choices, and display options.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the Dash of Luz service, including recipe management, pantry tracking, and meal planning features.
  • Power AI-driven features such as recipe import from URLs or photos, ingredient-based recipe suggestions, and smart meal plan generation.
  • Manage your subscription, process billing events, and enforce plan limits.
  • Facilitate household sharing features on the Family plan, including sharing recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and shopping lists across the household, and displaying member names and email addresses to other household members.
  • Send you transactional emails related to your account, such as password resets and subscription confirmations.
  • Understand how the service is used so we can fix bugs, improve performance, and develop new features.

3. AI Processing

Dash of Luz uses Anthropic's Claude AI to power features like recipe analysis, ingredient extraction, and meal suggestions. When you use these features, relevant data is sent to Anthropic's API for processing. This may include recipe text, images, or PDFs for import; pantry item names, dietary preferences, and recipe metadata for generating suggestions.

We do not send your name, email address, or other account information to Anthropic. Under our agreement with Anthropic, data sent through the API is not used to train AI models. For details on how Anthropic handles API data, see Anthropic's privacy policy.

4. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored using Supabase's cloud infrastructure. We use commercially reasonable measures to protect your data, including encryption at rest and in transit, and database-level row security policies to control access.

On the Family plan, certain information — such as household member names, email addresses, and profile photos — is visible to other members of your household. Additionally, recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and shopping lists are shared across and visible to all household members. No security measure is perfect, and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we are committed to protecting your data using commercially reasonable safeguards.

5. Billing and Payments

Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment card details are collected and stored directly by Stripe. Dash of Luz does not store, process, or have access to your full card number. We only receive limited information from Stripe, such as your card's last four digits and expiration date, to display on your account page.

We store a reference to your Stripe customer account and subscription status in our database to manage your plan. This includes your Stripe customer ID and subscription lifecycle information such as plan type and billing period.

6. Cookies and Analytics

We use minimal cookies that are strictly necessary for the service to function. These include session cookies to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use third-party advertising cookies or third-party tracking technologies.

7. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes. We only share data with the service providers necessary to operate Dash of Luz (such as Supabase for data hosting, Stripe for payments, and Anthropic for AI features), and only to the extent required to provide the service.

If you are on a Family plan, your name, email address, and profile photo are visible to other members of your household. Recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and shopping lists are shared across all members of your household. Personal settings — such as login credentials, notification preferences, dietary preferences, and billing details — remain private to each user.

We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a valid legal process or to protect the rights and safety of Dash of Luz and its users.

8. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you cancel your paid subscription, your account and data remain intact. Your plan reverts to Free at the end of your billing period, and access to some features may be restricted by Free plan limits. Canceling a subscription does not delete your data.

If you delete your account, we delete your personal data, recipes, meal plans, and other content from our active systems. Residual copies may briefly persist in automated system backups but are not individually accessible and are overwritten in the normal course of backup rotation.

If you are a household owner on the Family plan, you will be asked to either transfer household ownership to another member or confirm deletion of the household and all shared data — including shared recipes, pantry items, meal plans, and shopping lists — before your account can be deleted. Other household members retain their own individual accounts and personal data but lose access to the dissolved household and revert to Free plan accounts.

9. Data Portability

We believe your recipes and data belong to you. We are working on features to let you export your recipes and meal plans in standard formats. In the meantime, if you would like a copy of your data, please contact us at support@dashofluz.com.

10. Eligibility

Dash of Luz is intended for users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, please contact us at support@dashofluz.com so we can remove it.

11. International Users

Dash of Luz is operated from the United States and is primarily intended for users located in the United States. If you access the Service from outside the United States, please be aware that your data may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country or region. By using the Service, you consent to this transfer and processing.

12. Your Privacy Rights

You can ask us to access, correct, or delete your personal data at any time by emailing support@dashofluz.com. We will generally respond within 30 days. Please note that some data may be retained as described in Section 8 (for example, residual copies in automated backups).

If you are located in a jurisdiction that grants additional privacy rights (such as the EU or California), we will make reasonable efforts to honor those rights. As we grow, we may update this section with more specific information about regional privacy frameworks.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or by placing a prominent notice within the app before the changes take effect. Your continued use of Dash of Luz after the changes become effective means you accept the revised policy.
